BUG – Notifications remain after user is removed from a project

Hi,
I’d like to report a bug regarding notifications.

When I am removed from a project, I continue to receive notifications related to that project. The only way to stop them is to manually go through and remove each notification one by one.

Because of this behavior, removing people from private projects is currently ineffective, as they still receive notifications even though they no longer have access to the project.

Could you please take a look into this?
Thank you!

Hey @Dita_Zaludova_Didi what kinds of notifications are people removed from the project still receiving? Also, are they notifications related to tasks that those individuals are still technically collaborators on even though they’re no longer on the project? Also, if you go to the Share settings on the project, do you have any teams invited and if so, are any of those past project members part of any of those teams?

Hello, when the task is added to the project, I recieve notification.

Fot he questions:

Also, are they notifications related to tasks that those individuals are still technically collaborators on even though they’re no longer on the project? → No

Also, if you go to the Share settings on the project, do you have any teams invited and if so, are any of those past project members part of any of those teams? → also no

Hi @Dita_Zaludova_Didi This usually happens because users still have some form of indirect connection, like being a task collaborator or having prior notifications already triggered. However, if you’re not a collaborator, not part of any team with access, and are still receiving new notifications after being removed, it may be a bug or edge case.

A couple of quick checks while this is being looked into:

  • Open a few of the notifications and check if the tasks belong to another project you still have access to, or if you’re still listed as a collaborator

  • Check if there are any rules that automatically add you as a collaborator or assignee on tasks

If possible, it’s best to contact Asana Support so we can investigate further. Share a few example notification links, when you were removed from the project, what type of notifications you’re receiving (Inbox, email, or mobile), and confirm whether those tasks belong to multiple projects.

As a workaround, you can remove yourself as a collaborator on those tasks, or use Advanced Search to find tasks where you’re still listed as a collaborator and bulk remove yourself.
