I noticed that this request was previously made but was closed without resolution. I believe Asana would greatly benefit from adding the ability to copy the values of text custom fields across multiple tasks simultaneously.
Like the original post mentioned, I also manage a project with a list of people and all their information. Often, I need to send emails to everyone in the list, and it would be incredibly helpful to copy all the email addresses from the custom fields across tasks at once.
To my knowledge, there’s no workaround for this except exporting to a .csv file, which isn’t practical for this use case.
Note: Not a solution but marked as such to elevate a key reply
Until there’s a better solution, you could use the free Asana2Go (disclaimer: I’m the creator) in one of a couple of different ways to get the email addresses for a selected set of tasks.
You can select all the rows (tasks) of interest in your project then click a button in Asana2Go and it will copy tasks, either:
As a “Detailed CSV” for pasting in GSheets or Excel directly (no file required) where you can see the column of Email addresses, or
As a custom format that just puts in your copy buffer the email address, one per row (this requires modifying a format).
Both are described in the help within Asana2Go and in the intro video at:
Thank you Larry, this is a workaround. However, sometimes when you try to do this with more than 100 tasks it doesn’t work. Do you know if it has a limit?
Yes, @Esteban_Giannini, there’s a limit because of memory/caching in Asana, so there can be a limit of around 100 tasks often.
This is covered in the Asana2Go help. Click “Help” from the main popup, then in the Caveats section, see the bullet that starts with “Asana will say it limits you to 50 Tasks selected; that doesn’t apply to Asana2Go. But . . .”
