Email Task Creation Not Working

Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing: Email task creation is not working.

Steps to reproduce: I have copied links to various projects and submitted emails in the correct format to create a task and it never appears anywhere within Asana. I also never get any rejection or notification emails from the Asana server.

Browser version: I don’t think it is related to my specific browser as we have several people using Asana through various browsers and it shows the same within chrome and IE on my PC: Version 84.0.4147.89 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Hi @Casey_Sue, thanks for reaching out and sorry for the trouble here!

Before creating tasks in Asana from emails, you’ll need to ensure that the email address have access to your Workspace, Organization or project in Asana. If the email address is not associated with an Asana account, you may receive a notification indicating that your task could not be created.

If this is the case, please follow these steps to setup the email address you would like to send emails to your account and create tasks:

  1. Click your profile photo in the top bar and select My Profile Settings
  2. Navigate to the Email Forwarding
  3. Select your email address

I also recommend you to check if you are in the correct Workspace or Organization when you are looking for your tasks, you can do so following these steps.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

We have been using the email to task functionality for near two years now. It stopped working either because of server issues on our side or new requirements from Asana’s side. The issue is we do not know what to look for to ensure our server is sending the email appropriately to Asana.

If you use Gmail, I would recommend looking into the Gmail addon for Asana task creation. It’s less overhead to keep working and provides more flexibility for task creation details, compared to the direct-to-Asana email route.
