Dynamic Parent Task Due Dates

It would be good to have this standard project management functionality to auto‑adjust parent task due dates based on earliest and latest subtask dates.

This can be managed through Task dependencies - set the last subtask as a dependent/blocking the parent task and its dates will update when you push the last subtask date.

@Beth_Seeber, how do you do this through task dependencies? Do you rely on the project-level dependency date shifting, so the due date of the top-level task shifts as the latest subtask shifts?

Yes, exactly. If the Parent Due Date is the same (or later than) the last subtask, and dependencies are set to maintain buffer, the date on the Parent Task will adjust to match the task that it is dependent on. I’ve included a link to the Asana Help article about dependencies above.

Hi @Brenda_Thompson , there is this similar existing thread:

Would you agree for me to merge yours into this one?
Thanks!

The title sounds the same but the details seem different. My request is for the parent task to automatically update to start with the start date of the earliest subtask and end with the due date of the last subtask due date.
