I would like to have the start and end date of my task automatically updated with the earliest and latest dates provided in the sub-tasks for that task. I’m currently doing this manually.

Hi @lpb, I think this is the existing thread we could merge into, no? Or is it the other way around?
I only read the OP there and concluded it was not the same request, but I didn’t read the 219 other posts!!
It didn’t mention start date, and didn’t seem to be asking to update the parent task, but maybe I’m wrong?
Your call…
Thanks,
Larry
Hi @Aravinthan_Kumaran1 , Currently there is no Asana feature but This is something you can achieve using AI Studio, so if its workflow then easy, if its standalone project then you can put some triggers and can easily achieve this
agreed this is annoying having to always update the parent based on the subtasks, should do it automatically or we should be able to create a rule that does it.
We use asana with instagantt on large projects where are many task groups in 1 stage. When parent task don’t summing up the duration of subtasks it creates problems. May be you can add this feature with an on/off option for those who don’t need it
Until/if Asana offers this fully, you can accomplish this pretty easily yourself right now.
One time only, create a formula custom field in your org library like this:
Your subtasks with Start and Due dates will automatically have their duration calculated:
When the parent task is collapsed, the built-in roll-up function for numeric fields automatically does what you’re asking for now:
PS Don’t forget to click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button at the top-left; that’s the quickest and most effective way to express your support for a request.
Thanks,
Larry
Hello Larry! Thank you, but that’s not what I meant. Formulas don’t solve integration problems. I need to sum the dates in the parent task, and I want the parent task to show me the final dates for all the subtasks, not just their duration
Is this what you’re asking for:
If so, that’s in-development which means it’s likely expected soon.
Or this:
Don’t forget, for either or both, to click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button at the top-left; that’s the quickest and most effective way to express your support for a request.
Also, please reply here if one of them matches your request and then I will merge this topic into one of those.
Thanks,
Larry
The second topic is more suitable, thank you ![]()
I’ve merged your post into an existing topic; votes will be merged.
Thanks,
Larry
