Dragging (subtask) section + subtasks into list below an expanded task causes repeatable error

(1) Steps to reproduce:

  • Tasks with subtasks exist as in screenshot:
  • Note that Task 2 is expanded
  • Click on Section in task 1, shift click to select Subtask 1 and Subtask 2 (as in screenshot above)
  • Drag the Section + 2 subtasks underneath ‘Expanded Task 2 with subtasks’ and above ‘Subtask in Task 2’ - a darker line appears to indicate this should be ‘possible’:
(mouse cursor doesn’t show in screenshot, but is there)
  • Consistently getting an error at this point (done this three times now, including with these new tasks I created for the screenshots):

(2) A secondary error is also exposed:

  • Clicking on the link for ‘Asana Support’ from the popup above does not work, and it is slow enough that I can copy the URL from these pages as they try to load:
  • https://help.asana.com/s/login/?language=en_US&startURL=%2Fs%2F%3Flanguage%3Den_US%26reloaderror%26t%3D1741091218479
  • https://help.asana.com/_nc_external/identity/sso/ui/AuthorizationError?ErrorCode=ERROR_CREATING_USER&ErrorDescription=Required+fields+are+missing%3A+%5BUsername%2C+Last+Name%2C+Email%2C+Alias%2C+Time+Zone%2C+Locale%2C+Email+Encoding%2C+Profile%2C+Language%5D&ProviderId=0SOPc00000005xN&startURL=%2Fs%2F%3Flanguage%3Den_US%26reloaderror%26t%3D1741091218479
  • Ending with this screen:

(3) As an aside, the “Report a Bug subcategory” link in the post below goes to a 404 page; this is the thread that came up when I searched for how to report a bug (and those instructions may be out of date now):

Hi @Sarah_L

Please check this post - it has an alternative way to contact support. They are aware of the issue with contacting support.

Hi @Sarah_L, thanks for reaching out and I’m sorry for the issue you are experiencing!

I was able to reproduce the issue following the steps you shared and I have escalated it to our product team so we can investigate further.

I have also let our team know you are receiving the salesforce auth error and have sent them the URL of the error. We will be able to fix the issue with this information.

I will let you know as soon as I have an update on your reports but please let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime!

Thanks for the update @Emily_Roman! Wonder also if Marie’s post in that “How to report a Bug” post that comes up in search results/Google search can be edited to correct the link/provide up to date instructions? Thanks!

Good question @Sarah_L! We appreciate the heads up about this post and we will certainly edit it. I have unlisted the topic until we have updated information.

As a reference, in the Community Forum, we are only able to escalate widespread bugs or issues we can replicate. For other user specific issues, we recommend users to contact our support team as they have the tool to investigate further

Hi @Sarah_L, just wanted to share an update for you here! Our product team confirmed this is currently working as expected. You can drag and drop tasks to list view but unfortunately it’s not possible to drag and drop subtask sections to the project list view.

Thanks for sharing your feedback! Our team will consider it in future updates and we will make sure to keep you posted if this option becomes available

Hi @Emily_Roman, thanks for the update. The issue is not so much the design decision, but the fact that it throws up an error, forcing the page to be reloaded, every time it is tried. It should fail more gracefully, no? Just something that says that is not possible? And perhaps not show visually the implication that it might be possible for this action to take place (when the Section and Subtasks are selected from the Details pane and dragged over, the dark line appears as if they could be dropped there).
