Downloading csv - formatting issue

Hello everyone,

So i am running into an issue where when i download a project into a CSV file it downloads everyhting completly wrong. And there are a lot more columns that i dont need like task id number, created on date etc.

Is there an app i can connect to Asana that will eliminate this issue or somethign Asana can fix?

Hi @Teona_Mirceska ,

Is there anything wrong besides the added columns?

What program are you using to open the .csv file?

Also, let me know if you want me to move this topic to Tips and Tricks .
There are about 25x as many people in that part of the forum (as this is part ambassador only), so you have better chances of getting responses.

Yes please move it !

And yes the information that is being downloaded doesnt match to what is in the project in asana

I am using excel

That it adds more columns is expected and unlikely to chance, as Asana uses all columns in the background, and an export is giving you the raw data.

If upon closer inspection there is actually a mismatch between the information in the project and the information in the export I would advise to contact support (Head’s up, they are quite busy so it might take some time before you get a reply)

If you’d want to filter out the columns you don’t use you can use Power Query. This allows you for instance to set up an Excel file that whatches a folder, and upon refresh data collects the current .csv file data, and removes, filters, and/or pivots the data in the way you specify.

I can help you set this up if you want. If you do send me a DM.

@Teona_Mirceska,

My free Asana2Go (disclaimer: I’m the creator) offers two CSV export built-in options with fewer columns than what Asana offers, and lets you choose which tasks/subtasks to export, in case that’s a help for you.

Thanks,

Larry
