Display when custom field does not have a value

All,

I have various custom fields, but sometimes a value is not selected. In the dashboard I want to have this visible. E.g. when you use a Donut as graph you see the amount per value, but when a task does not have the specific value I want to see it. Any suggestion?

You could add an additional custom field value such as ‘Not selected’ which is selected on all tasks in your template/project from the start of the project (or a rule could initiate this at the start)

Or a rule that changes a separate custom field when a value is added, so you can report on that field for values that are missing?

I don’t think that creating an additional custom field for each customer field is the solution, because Asana is not able to show information about “NULL-values”. I was hoping I was missing something in configuration.

This would be a really useful feature. Having the option to display a placeholder such as “Not set” or “No value” when a custom field is empty would make it much easier to identify incomplete tasks at a glance and reduce the need for extra filtering or manual checks. It would definitely improve workflow visibility.

Are you using a project template? If so, each value could be input to start.

For example with ‘Not Started’, ‘In Progress’, ‘Complete’ - if you set the custom field to ‘Not Started’ to begin with in the template, this can then be reported on as a value. If you could start all custom fields with a value, it will report on those. That’s the only workaround I can think of as you can’t select ‘-’ in the dashboards.
