Custom fields not showing in dashboard

I am trying to create a graph that shows how many meetings a particular Event Point of Contact (POC) is scheduling. We have a custom field for Event POC, that is included in our organization’s library. When I go to add this custom field to any graph in the Dashboard, it doesn’t appear.

My other custom fields appear, but for some reason, Event POC does not. I have this field in multiple projects and I cannot get any Dashboard to show this option to create what I need. What am I missing?

Thank you!

Hi! Not sure if this applies to your case, but I have experienced this with custom fields that are set to MULTI select instead of SINGLE select. However, I see that you have a custom field showing up called Room(s) Reserved which I take to imply that it’s maybe a multi-select field, so that might contradict my theory lol.

Thanks! I don’t think that’s the issue, but I appreciate the suggestion!

After more time thinking about this issue and consulting with co-workers, I think the issue might be that it’s not a select field, but rather a type-in answer. I was hoping that since it’s people in the organization that we could still create a dashboard based on this field, but since the answer is a fill in the blank that is probably the issue.

Welcome, @MicheleN,

That’s right; text type custom fields are not supported in Dashboard charts but most other types of custom fields are.

Thanks,

Larry

@Michele_Naughton , if everyone in your organization has an Asana account (even with View-only licenses) then you could use a People field instead of a Text field.

In case you are using this in a form, note that forms do not currently support People fields.

That would be perfect, unfortunately this is connected to a form. Maybe that feature will be added at some point, until then I will figure something else out. Thank you for the assist!

Ah! You could try creating an AI Studio rule to read your text field and then populate a people field, based on the closest matching name..?

I didn’t know that was an option, thank you! Unfortunately, my company has strict limitations on what we’re allowed to use AI for (pretty much nothing). Again, hopefully in the future I’ll be able to implement something like this. Thanks again!
