I had a project that was annoyingly had each type of media organized into a section. Bathroom flyers, eblasts, social media. I had like 20 different sections.
I decided to move to a custom field instead and just use that to tag the type of media, figuring I would just use that field to organize and group instead of sections.
I went through and deleted every section, making sure to click “keep tasks”.
But now, there is only one section left that I can’t delete but only 51 tasks are in that section - assumedly the tasks that were in the first original section.
I’ve tried clearing filters, trying different groups, but the tasks that were in the other sections don’t seem to be showing up anywhere. The only way I can find them is by doing a full advanced search, so they’re still in the project, but won’t show up.
When I do an advanced search or look at deleted tasks, they aren’t deleted, either.
If you found the tasks with advanced search, then show us that screenshot including the task detail pane for one of them. That will confirm whether the task is in the project or not. If it is, then if you have no filters set, it should appear somewhere in the project in list and board view; I’ve never seen otherwise.
I have experienced this twice before. When sections are quickly deleted, one after another within a few secods, it can lead to orphaned tasks, essentially being without a Section but still part of the project. It appears to be a rare bug when tasks are added to the next available section, but that section is also simultaneously being deleted, the tasks end up being sectionless
The only way this was previously solved was via Asana Support; they managed to move all tasks into the remaining section. Every project requires at least one section, even though it may not appear in the List view, it does appear as ‘Untitled section’ in the Board view or other views, and in the task details pane.
If you find your tasks, they may show in the task details pane that they are still part of the deleted section, even though that Section was deleted.
Support should be able to solve this for you.
