This really needs to happen. Provide a date field, and when adding it, let us choose the format of the date. Ideally the date field would also have a placeholder showing the format, and a “mask” to only allow typing in a certain format. Also a datepicker would be great.
Heck, I’d be fine if there was just a YYYY-MM-DD format within the “Number” field. Or let us add “masks” to text fields!
I would really love to see this feature. 
Requesting date format field type. Currently, there is a drop-down, text, number. The number type has various options and even a custom label. We have used numbers in yymmdd format to get this done in a backdoor way. Are there any plans to create a date field type?

We don’t have immediate plans to implement this feature but I’ll make sure. to update the main thread as soon as we have any updates.

Asana, with all due respect this request was started in 2017… going on FOUR YEARS. This is absolutely needed for so many different jobs and businesses. I am shocked that we’re still waiting on this. I speak for myself and likely the almost 400 people who have upvoted this when I say our lives and jobs would be so much easier with this addition. It’s a lot more honorable if you were to tell us FOUR YEARS ago that the likelihood of fulfilling this request was slim, rather than stringing us along for all this time with a sense false optimism. Can you answer honestly if this is something that we can actually expect to see? And if so, please give a time frame.
Hey Emily, I have to ask… why doesn’t Asana “have immediate plans” to implement this when this request was started in 2017 and is a frequently requested addition?
@Emily_Roman I agree with @FreshyJon … while not ideal, even YYYY-MM-DD would suffice at this point. If this isn’t of immediate implementation, can Asana share with it’s community members what new features are being prioritized? Genuinely curious

It’s too bad date field can’t be added just yet. A lot of people in my organization are moving over to Airtable. I will be reducing my Asana licenses.
It’s really not hard to add time/date custom field! It’s nonsense that application for “organize, track, and manage work” doesn’t have option to add time format field! It is not convenient to use the decimal system for time tracking! Most likely, Asana developers simply does not care about most of customer requests at all and don’t pay attention to important for customers votes in this community for years!
As a computer coder, I know there are some challenges, but if we can land on Mars, surely Asana has bright enough people to finally add a date custom field. It’s not rocket science unless you work at Asana, I guess. Issue first raised in 2017.

I think a custom date field could be useful for internal dates for subtasks. I would like to have a “Scheduled Date” field for subtasks - so when we Export the calendar to share with external stakeholders, they can see the high-level tasks, but not all of our subtasks needed. (Only Tasks and sub-tasks with Due Dates get exported currently. We need to share a calendar, but don’t want all of the little details/subtasks included.)
