Custom Fields Push to Multiple Projects

On the same topic, it would be great when adding a custom field to a project that the popup went to the library first, not create a new one.

Good practice is to use common custom fields across projects, so this supports that process.

My team went ahead and purchased a different product.

In order to use Asana at scale, we really need the ability to bulk add custom fields across all projects - and even across teams! Having to go into each project within each team to add the new field from our organization’s library is tedious.

Hi @anon50761152,

There are actually 2 other threads with this request:

https://forum.asana.com/t/bulk-add-custom-fields/11508

(@Community_Managers, maybe you want to merge these into one?)

I’m a newbie and found my way to this thread.

Is this the one definitive thread on this now?
Does anyone know of an add-on or a github project that has solved this?

  1. I need to enable a custom field over lots of existing projects
  2. I need to push several custom rules out to the same list of projects

Here is my use case:

I’m operating in an environment where we can’t just manage by assignee and due date. We need to rely on kanban boards so that we can manage strategic projects alongside interrupt driven projects.

This doesn’t mean that we don’t care about dates, it’s just that progress is never linear. We are constantly having to make decisions around pushing off the urgent to work on the important.

If I can get a report of what each user says that they are actively working on then I can get a rough idea of what their individual workloads are.

In an ideal world every single issue would have both an owner and a due date. But this is not an ideal world. We have way more tasks that we’ll every actually finish.

However if I can see who is reporting what tasks as “work in progress” then I can report upwards how our workload is trending by working back from individuals to projects. e.g. Are we getting killed by interrupt driven work right now or are we we making progress on our strategic work. All this requires is that the engineers report the current status of the tasks that they have assigned to them or that they have self assigned.

In asana the kanban board is driven only off the sections as best I can tell. In a given project I can synchronize sections and a task progress field using rules. But none of that matters if I can’t implement this over the span of what I’ve walked into. 70+ existing projects with hundreds of existing tasks.

Any help?

Just noting that I found my use case discussed here in the forums as well.

Using the API as a workaround for creating rules for each project will not work.

Same problem here. Thank you for working on it!

so not efficient, please add multi select custom field

and DATES fields

@anon21287496, multi-select custom field is already available → How to Create and Use Custom Fields in Asana | Product Guide • Asana Product Guide and we’re working on date custom fields → DATE - Custom Field Type - #293

TOP ASANA ISSUE

@anon21287496 the way this forum works is that we usually address one topic per thread, so I suggest joining all existing threads or create new ones if needed.

I created 40 projects and I’ve upgraded the system to be custom to my need,
in the process I’ve made fields and i want to insert theme to all my projects ??

why can I implement it right away on all of my projects or projects that I choose
???

asana is missing a lot of basic functions that help everyone a lot of time and afford

There is currently no way of doing this, unless this is a number field and you have access to Portfolio (if that’s the case let me know).

ok.

This feature would be extremely helpful. I am hoping the custom field - date would also be able to use the same rules/automations as the current due date field.
I have a multi-step approval process that I need the custom field date to adhere to, however, I don’t want the custom field date to show the task in the calendar view so I’m hoping there will also be a feature to filter that out somehow.

+1 on wanting this feature.

Also waiting on this feature!

I would love this to be added as well.
