How do I enable custom fields? I am on a team that is part of a premium plan, but I do not see the link to create custom fields.
Hi @Nedra and welcome to the Forum
If the Team youâre a member of is Premium, you should definitely have access to Custom Fields within this specific Team. That said, in order to see custom fields, your tasks must be nested in Project within the Premium Team.
So if youâre creating a task from your My Tasks for example, and donât associate to any project you wonât have access to Custom Field until you associate this task to a Project that belong to your Premium Team.
Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions!
That sort of makes sense. But I have access to the timeline, and that appears to be a premium feature as well. Why would I have access to one and not the other?
Timeline is automatically tied up to your projects, which is why your seeing it automatically. Custom Fields only appear when a task is tied to a âpremiumâ project, if your task isnât tied to a project you wonât automatically see the custom field option.
Hope this helps!
Hello Marie
I am getting this issue - but the âteamâ is part of the organisation that has a premium subscription
Please help as custom fields would be really helpful
thanks
Hi @Dan_Appleby and thanks for reaching out!
From what I understand, your team belongs to a Premium Organisation, but you donât have access to custom fields, correct?
Is this the case for every project in your Team?
Can you double check that youâre logged in the correct Organisation? Managing your account settings | Product guide ⢠Asana Product Guide
Hi
I am 100% logged into the correct organisation.
I have discovered that I am not considered to be part of the âteamâ as the email I use for asana is not in the correct domain address
As we pay for a premium subscription for the company, is it possible to enable custom fields for me?
Thanks
Got it @Dan_Appleby!
As a Guest, you canât manage custom fields, but should be able to access them. You can learn more about this in the following article: How to Create and Use Custom Fields in Asana | Product Guide ⢠Asana Product Guide
Unfortunately, weâre not able to enable âmanage custom fieldsâ for Guest users, so if you need to modify or add new custom fields, I would recommend to add to your account an email address using this Organisation domain in order to become full member of the Org. Unfortunately this is the only solution I can think of! Sincere apologies for the inconvenience, please let me know if there is anything else I can help with!

Similar problem - we have a 10 member Premium Team, and two of the members do not have the + Add Field button, and can not create custom field. The remaining members of the Team have no problem.
All of the members are on the same Premium Team, although we have 6 different email domains and are scattered across 4 Countries.
The users are logged in to the correct organization, and the projects are definitely associated with the Premium Team.
What am I missing?
HI @Don_Sissons
These two users are most likely Guest of your Organisation (which means that they donât use an email domain attached to your Organisations).
While guests can edit the value of custom fields, they canât edit or create new custom fields. Yo can learn more about this in the following article: How to Create and Use Custom Fields in Asana | Product Guide ⢠Asana Product Guide
Hope this helps!
Thanks Marie. OK, so that helps - but not clear on how to fix this.
Yes, those two members have a different domain address - but so do 4 of the other team members. only 3 members have the same domain address as the organization. Yes, this is a mess right now as we are in the process of migrating to a single domain over the next 2 to 3 months. I expect that will be my next problem!
I donât know how to associate the additional domains to the same organization. Is there a way to do this at the Team level?
We are a small Team operating within a large collection of related subsidiaries. The Premium Team seemed to us the tools we need - yet this is an obstacle for us.
Any advice is welcome!
Hi @Marie
Just picking up on this thread as Iâm having the same kind of issues with not being able to see custom fields on a project. The project Iâm trying to amend the fields for is a template we use. It seems that the custom fields only become visible once the template is used to set up a new project.
Is there any way I can amend the custom fields for the template?
Thanks
Sally
@Marie
I believe it has been fixed now - it was something to do with my access to the project.
