Cross Company Collaboration

I am working on a project with another company. They are using Asana. How can I import or Merge their Asana and my Asana so I don’t have to switch between companies?

Hi @Joe_Cullen Welcome! To the Asana forum and to our community!

Do you know if you can request to be a member with the other company? Or ask the company to invite you to their organization. You can send them this article https://help.asana.com/s/article/managing-people-in-organizations?language=en_US that covers how to manage users in an organization

Welcome, @Joe_Cullen,

To add to @Levar_M’s good answer…

There isn’t a way to easily merge/import, and if you did it would then be out of date when the other changed. You can use a third-party app like Unito to keep the two in sync, for pay. But otherwise…

Each company has their own Asana space which can be set up differently but most often are “Organizations” and your login with your company’s email domain name to your Asana space makes you a “Member” taking up a paid seat and giving you certain access rights.

If you ask another company to invite you to their Asana space with that same email address, then you will become a Guest (not Member) in their Asana, and they won’t have to pay for a seat for you.

You will be able to connect to either space easily, but separately (in separate browser tabs/windows), but you will have two sets of Asana Inboxes and My Tasks, one for each.

There’s more in Help on this if it’s not clear.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi @Joe_Cullen -
It’s always wise to heed input from @Levar_M and @lpb – both excellent highly knowledgeable Asana pros.

I’ll add one more tiny bit of flavor here. My team and I support dozens of different companies in their implementation of Asana. The only way we stay sane, rather than logging into each one each day or week, is we sync all of them back to our workspace using Unito.io.

It’s a paid tool that is so extremely worth it. It keeps the tasks in sync (essentially “mirrored”) from the client workspace to ours and back – 2-way sync). This way we can work on tasks across all our clients from one central workspace.

Good luck in your work!

Thanks, @Bryan_TeamKickstart, expert-extraordinaire.

Although my reply focused in other areas, I did offer that solution as well in case it was missed, but great to hear it’s working so well for you:

Thanks,

Larry

Oh sorry about that @lpb - My brain scanned looking for a link and I didn’t see one. I should have known your answer would be very comprehensive. Great work!

It only happened to be okay this time; often it can be improved, so I always appreciate the extra eyes!
