Converting from Organization to Workspace

Hey folks -

When I joined my organization, county government, I signed up for a new Asana account. I noticed others w/ the same email domain also had Asana accounts, but I work independently from them - totally different work type, departments and projects. We will never interact. If I understood things better, I would have made a workspace, rather than joined the organization and, have later learned that in order to do that I would have had to sign-up with a non-county email address.

The County has paid licenses for their existing projects / org profile and have maxed out - they have had to kick me off of the county account / domain, but when we realized what happened, they were able to temporarily add me again so I could recover my info. I cannot use one of their licenses / profiles (county government for you).

I think my only option is to export all of my data / projects, sign up for a new account using a non-county email address and import all of my projects there. I am mostly using Asana for task management across many different content areas (10 projects in total) - so, the info is fairly limited. I am not allowed to download the software to my desktop, so I only use Asana in the browser. I don’t have forms, limited calendar items, and have few attachments connected to tasks.

Is there any other workaround that can transfer my projects from an organization to a workspace, and, anything else I should be aware when exporting or importing? I think the steps would be to export all projects as CSV’s, create the new workspace, importing all projects and then delete or deactivate my prior county connected account?

Confirmation (or alternatives) would be great. Thanks! Cynthea

Welcome, @Cynthea_Kimmelman-De,

See my recent reply to a related question here:

I think you’d want to great your new account as you mention so you have your new workspace.

I think you’d want to use Ditto (or Altosio) not CSV. To do so, I think you’ll need to add your new account to the org’s projects so you you can reach them as a source, and your new workspace as a destination for the transfer.

You may want to confirm with Asana Support to be 100% sure: Create a support ticket: see How to contact our Support Team.

Thanks,

Larry
