Color Coded Tasks/Sections

Just going to see if this is an option in the latest version of Asana? From a UI perspective it would be a huge addition for us to be able to add some more visual hierarchy to the sections in our projects.

It would be very helpful (visually) to be able to color code tasks within one project and/or sections (kind of like Trello). How about it?

Plus 1 for this one! I am surprised that Asana doesn’t offer an option to color code Sections in Timeline view

I concur!

Hi,

I am a freelancer that works on 5-10 on-going projects monthly. I have hit a road block in my organization of the “my tasks” section.

I have laid it out in such a way that helps me see what I am working on in a given day, week, month and beyond. Below the Today priority section , is how I see what I am working on throughout the week or month. It is in the section I created called the “IN PROGRESS” section. These are large tasks that are broken down into subtasks. I then section that section out by team. Each team may have different projects within it(color coded). This allows me to jump in throughout the week to see how I am progressing through these tasks.

Right below it I created my own “TODAY” section. This is where my problem lies. In this section I similarly group together tasks by their team name. This allows me to see not only what I need to be working on that day, but in what area I need to be for a set of tasks which saves loads of time. The problem is, it is hard to discern the two sections I have created(“IN PROGRESS”, “TODAY”) because they look very similar. If you could allow me to color code the sections, I believe it would be very beneficial for all.

Thanks.

I want to clarify the sentence below since I cannot edit this post.

This allows me to see not only what I need to be working on that day, but in what area I need to be for a set of tasks which saves loads of time.

Sectioning the team names in my “TODAY” section allows me to group tasks by project. A company I am working for may have marketing tasks, website tasks, and a CRM all different projects in a team. With this information I can section the “TODAY” section by team name and group them by project so I can stay in the same area for a large number of tasks and not jump around like a wild man. THIS is why this is beneficial in the “TODAY” section.

Hi @Robert_H :wave:t3:

Thanks for sharing your feedback but also for taking the time to let us know how this would be helpful with the workflow you’ve created! I can’t promise when or this will be implemented but until our team comes up with a solution, I’d recommend using emojis to help distinct your Sections, there is actually a great thread here on this topic: Emojis in tags are awesome (this topic focus on Tags and Custom Fields but you can apply the same principle with tasks or Section).

Again, I know this is not an ideal solution, but I thought you might be interested in this workaround until we come up with a potential color-coding system! On my end, I’ll make sure to keep you posted as soon as I have an update on this feature request internally!

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

Thank you Marie for your reply. That is helpful. I will distinguish them that way for now.

Hi,

I’d like to be able to highlight the Section titles with different colours. Monday.com offer this functionality, and it’s great to help organize my long personal project section.

Thanks

can’t wait for this feature ^^

Need this feature ASAP. It is beyond important for our company… we switched from Trello and are really surprised Asana does not have this feature.

The lack of basic color coding for tasks and sections is a gigantic oversight.

+100 on this. Color is many, many times faster to interpret than text. Please deploy such a feature.

asana come on this is really basic and really needed, its been 2 years and still no colours?
asana is one of the more expensive yet so many simple organising features like colours for sections and all tasks in that section not added yet. after 2 years, please update when this will happen.

My use case: I want to change the background color of a task row in list view. I have some tasks set up as templates (not using the task template feature because it appears to be limited to 10 and doesn’t maintain dependencies). What I’m looking for is an easy way to indicate to others that some tasks are optional (whereas others are required). I’ll try emojis, as recommended, but I think people will forget to delete them once they duplicate the task and we’ll be stuck with emojis all over the place.
