Clear visual relationship between dependent tasks in list view

In List View, it would be very helpful if the user could select a task and all of its dependencies highlight in the list. Conversely, selecting a task that is a dependency would highlight the task it rolls up to.

Also, I would like to be able to toggle on some kind of indicator icon that would distinguish dependent tasks from non-dependent tasks.
Thanks!

Just like tasks that prevent the task in focus to be completed, it should be highly visible which tasks are pending the one in focus to be released.

Hi again @Pierre_at_work

I believe your request is similar to this one: Clear visual relationship between dependent tasks in list view

Would you mind if I merge your post with it to consolidate ideas and votes? Looking forward to your reply!

It would be useful to see, when in List View, the tasks that are dependant upon another indented for clarity.

Hello! I just discovered that dependency blocking isn’t fully functional with milestones. If click the “Mark Complete” button within a milestone task that is dependent on another task, the blocking works as expected:

However, if I try to mark a Milestone complete from List View, blocking fails to work and I’m able to mark the milestone complete anyway even though it’s supposedly blocked by another task. This issue is causing us to miss essential tasks in our workflow.

I experienced the same issue last week in the list view as well (blocking fails to work even for regular tasks with dependencies)

Huh – that’s odd. For me, blocking for regular tasks IS working in list view – in list view I get an hourglass instead of the checkbox if the task is blocked, and it doesn’t let me click the hourglass to complete the task. However, with a milestone, no hourglass and it DOES let me click to complete in list view. Maybe there’s a third issue at play her for certain kinds of tasks or something?

Hi @BrianV and @Annie_Vu, welcome to the Asana Community Forum

While this feature isn’t available at this time, hopefully it’s something our Product team can implement in the future

We do have an existing thread for this feature request in the #productfeedback category so I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with the existing one to consolidate feedback.

I’ll keep you posted and let you know if I have any updates

Thank you. I understand it makes sense to consolidate – but I hope the difference between my request and the thread you merged this with is clear. For me, it’s not just a visual issue, it’s also an functionality issue as currently, I’m literally able to mark a milestone complete even though it’s “blocked” by another incomplete task. That shouldn’t be possible.

It would be super useful to have a new tyoe of task for dependencies, like the one we have for milestones, that is visually different so that we can spot it better in the boards and timelines. It should also appear in the Milestones in the overview of a project as dependencies are crucial for a lot of project types.

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us, @Samuel_Clara! I just merged your thread with the existing request we have to improve dependencies visibity. I will update this thread once I have any news.

Hello Emily I was talking about external dependencies, tasks that does not block or that are not blocked by any other tasks. I realise that my post was not sufficiently clear on this.
