Is it possible to add checkbox in tasks comments and if someone check it, it gets saved?
Hi
So you want to include some kind of “task” inside a comment someone can tick? Can you use a subtask and make a reference to it in the comments?
Hi there,
We use substasks but we want checkbox, it’s something like a form in a comment.
Ok. Then maybe @Marie should move your question in the Product Feedback category so people can upvote it.
C’mon @Marie lol
Sounds like what you want is Markdown. So you can do something like this.
Request check boxes
Vote for Markdown
Exactly!!!
Markdown would allow you to show a checkbox, ticked or not, not have a checkbox that can be ticked by someone else
Just migrated to Asana from Wrike, and it makes zero sense to my why Asana doesn’t have checkboxes in tasks. Subtasks are not a good replacement for just a basic checklist in a task, as its something i would want to use in the description of both tasks and subtasks. Definitely a basic staple for a PM platform. Id move back to wrike if our team was allowed to, looks like this was asked for 4 years ago and still no progress other than directing us to use subtasks.
Using “progress” might be confusing. My bet: they “decided” not to do it yet, so they probably don’t consider this progress. When you have subtasks already, I really believe it doesn’t make sense to have checkboxes as well…
I’m considering moving from ClickUp to Asana and having the ability to quickly create checklists in a task and mark them as done is pretty much the only good thing we use in ClickUp - to not have that in Asana is galling, as it does so much else of what we want.
That’s called subtasks
No, it’s not - and i’m pretty amazed that a “partner” and “forum lead” thinks it’s a great idea to make fun of customers. You should know better.
That said, a checkbox is very lo-fi, doesn’t come with the matadata payload of a (sub)task and can just live inside the description - multiple times. Every task tracking feature devs are used to comes with them and they’re a great way to keep track of where you are - subtasks just take too much screen real estate and bring too much mental burden. If you really don’t know what everybody is talking about - this is what we want: About task lists - GitHub Docs or this: GitLab Flavored Markdown (GLFM) | GitLab
Sorry if I came off this way, I was making fun of the situation not you. I understand subtasks don’t fully answer your need, but I also disagree with the “lo-fi” argument. Any new feature makes the tool more complex, and in this case I can guarantee many people will be confused by the co-existence of checkboxes and subtasks. I trust you with the fact that many other tools have them, this is not a reason for Asana to have it too though.
Hi Bastien, I went through several topics on Asana forum related to this checkbox feature, looking at how dozens of people have asked and begged you guys to add this feature since 2017 (and what I’m currently looking for, so add me to this list). And since that time your answer is still the same - that many people will be confused. Have you asked those people or just suppose?
Cause we’re here, we’re begging, and it looks like it doesn’t matter
Could be people didn’t explain enough why they need this feature, so let me on my example.
Often, I have tasks when I need to list multiple things (30-40 items) and for each of them I need, let’s say, some changes.
E.g. here’s the list of website pages, and on all of them I need my teammate to check and apply the same changes - for example, to change a title in the repeating section and to post a video.
And of course, in the description, I explain it in detail, and after I list the links to those pages (and yes, I don’t want to create 40 subtasks with the same task where only the link changes).
Now, as you know, the more detailed the task, the fewer mistakes we get in the end.
So what if under each of the links I can post two check boxes like:
Title changed
Video posted
Then I can be sure that my teammate will not be lost in those 40 links and will miss something.
I hope this explanation may help you guys to review the possibility of this feature’s implementation once again.
Let’s make Asana even more convenient!
And yes, If you don’t have this feature in Asana, we have to use some additional things like Google Docs or something. But it makes life even harder - why can’t we keep everything in one place - Asana?
And how should we manage all of those dozens of google docs files - this is what really confuses people. So they will be thankful for this feature, not confused.
Cheers!
Just to clarify, I do not work for Asana I am not the one to beg to
Hi @Ivan_Pletnev and any anyone else looking for a check box in their tasks details or in their list view; you could create a single-select field, using the emojis and , as per below:
And therefore would look like this in List view:
And like this in task details:
You could possibly skip having the empty checkbox as an option, unless you use a rule to set that always by default (whenever a task is added, for example) like this:
Hope this works for you as a workaround until Asana add this feature.
Hi Rcihard, nice solution.
But if i wanna use it in the description it can’t be possible.
And that the meaning i guess.
Fully agree. I need exactly this! Please Asana, a checkable box for inside a task would be awesome, not confusing.
