Check box in tasks

I am surprised that this feature, as implemented in Trello, for example, has still not been implemented (as of December 2024). There are already a huge number of posts about it, like this post here.

Asana doesn’t have to implement everything, and in that specific case, it might be a feature they don’t want to do. This is only my opinion, as I said above, there are already subtasks to cover your use case… Adding checkboxes would make things very very confusing, and would hurt accountability because you couldn’t assign those to someone…

our office just started using Asana and many of us would love to be able to ā€œcheck offā€ some of our tasks within the larger task. clickable checkboxes would be perfect for this. why not at least make it an option?

ann…d same here, make the checkbox people, senior dev’s show your powers, build it in 30min…

Because the more options you have, the more complex the tool becomes. The more complex, the slower it can evolve…

That’s partially true, because there is much more than just ā€œcodingā€ you have design, tests, documentation… See šŸ¦„ If Wishes Were Unicorns: Why Asana Might Not Have Implemented that Feature Request (and other thoughts about Asana feature development and product strategy) for reference

Lol there is literally a checkbox for comments here!!!

It is a formatting preference, minimize the risk if a subtasks gets wrongly removed (so many times have seen this happen!), people saying oh the subtask is not showing up in my board, bla bla bla… oh but I want to understand the whole context, I don’t know what I am being asked just by looking at the subtask.

This is for scaling purposes, you cannot always have small teams working so closely in one project at a time… it is overkill having to be chasing parent tasks, and not having a quick workaround to understand if it has been done or not.

Here is the design haha

I’ve been using the check box list in Wrike for a few years and it has been very helpful. Can you add this function to Asana? This would avoid having to create a ton of subtasks that can be done with checklists. Especially if some of the tasks are too small to create a separate subtask. It’s more like steps to follow within a task our team can checkoff after completing each one.

We just changed over to Asana and am learning how to use it now.

I would love to have this feature as well. +1

When scheduling work activities-task Asana is limited to sub-tasks. The competing App – Click-Up has a feature that is incredibly handy, quick, and convenient – CHECK LIST. It is a component of a Task and it allows a user to create a quick check list of items to be addressed – typically quick activities that are essential to advancing the task but does not need the full-blown structure of a sub-task.
And, the good thing about the check list is that an individual items can be assigned to someone with a click.

Asana is the leader in the market but others are doing all they can to topple their position. It would be helpful to loyal clients and users if they would be more attentive to the UX in the vast list of requests that seem to be ignored from one year to the next.

Just my frustrated opinion…

Hi @George_Considine,

I was sure there was an existing Product Feedback thread with this request that you could add your vote to, but I’m unable to find it…

I moved your post to Product Feedback (Developers & API is for third-party developers using and discussing the Asana API).

+1 for this feature to be added.

Yes please - Wrike has this.

its really disheartening to be here asking for what everyone else is asking for and seeing your executive decision that that people will be confused - did you survey people? Wrike has this. Tools should be flexible to meet end user needs.

To be clear, there is no executive decision here; while he is a Forum Leader and Asana consultant, Bastien is just a user like all of the rest of us, and is just giving his own personal input on how he sees this request. Asana has not weighed in on it at all here (and with some exceptions, they typically don’t and won’t).

I’ve voted for this because my workflow requires some text and a URL right after it. If Asana subtasks allowed hyperlinks for URLs in the task name, I don’t think this would be needed.
