Cant copy a task from project to project while keeping fields/dependencies

I recognize there are other discussions about this or very similar process, but I feel compelled to post because the fact that this isn’t a function on a “Task Management” application is infuriating.

Currently, the only workarounds are:

  • Duplicate the task, remove it from its current project, then reassign it to the new project.
  • Use a project template — but this assumes everything else you need already lives in that template, which isn’t always the case.

Neither option is a real helpful. Copying a task between projects and manually redoing its fields and dependencies (or duplicating and reprojecting) is slow and frustrating for something that should be simple. Asana should make this significantly easier — right now it’s a genuinely disappointing gap in the task management experience.

@Christian_Martin1, can you elaborate on this a bit more with a real example from your day-to-day workflow?

I’m trying to figure out a scenario where I’ve wanted a duplicate of a task, in a different project, but where it still shared the exact same dependencies as the task I cloned it from. I’m sure there’s a scenario, but it’d help to hear it from you.

I just tested the flow you mentioned you go through—though, I added the duplicated task to the new project before removing it from the original—and it took me right around 14s. So, yeah I could see where that’s a bit cumbersome for sure.

I would’ve uploaded an mp4 or webp but these forums don’t support either format.
