I want to be able to create a content calendar that only shows the key themes each month not each individual task for each area of marketing. Any ideas of the best way to set this up?

you could just create a separate Asana project and multi-home the tasks you need to see.
Now you can even think of an automation that tasks get multi-homed automatically. Rule Triggers could be tasks with a specific custom field selection, special assignee, or others.
