Asana Winter 2026 Release: Reduce time from planning to delivery with customizable automations and prebuilt AI Teammates

Hi Asana Community,

Today, I’m excited to introduce Asana’s Winter 2026 Release :skier:

This release brings you customizable automations and prebuilt AI Teammates to help teams reduce the time that it takes to move from planning to delivery. We’re introducing new ways that can empower teams to operate with greater speed and clarity. With collaborative AI, more robust progress tracking, and enhanced automation, this release is designed to eliminate manual friction and accelerate your team’s impact.

See what’s new in the Asana’s Winter 2026 Release below:

Accelerate complex work with prebuilt AI Teammates

  • Speed up results with prebuilt AI Teammates: Drive clarity, alignment, and next steps with ready-to-use, prebuilt AI Teammates like the Campaign Brief Writer, Workflow Optimizer, and Compliance Specialist - each designed to help you and your teams tackle complex workflows. The Campaign Brief Writer turns scattered notes and strategy docs into structured campaign briefs. The Workflow Optimizer quickly identifies and addresses gaps in processes, while the Compliance Specialist ensures work adheres to regulatory standards. These agents can integrate directly in the flow and context of the work for teams across Marketing, Operations, IT, and more. They can enable marketers to move seamlessly from kickoff to execution, operations teams to scale complex processes for faster impact, and IT teams to maintain compliance and audit readiness.

  • Bridge the gap from AI chat to work with the new Asana app in Claude: Turn ideas and concepts into action directly from your conversations with Claude. From a single conversation in Claude, you can check on the status of portfolios, preview project structure, and kick off entirely new projects in Asana.

  • Automate intake directly from Slack with AI Studio: Capture requests where they happen and automatically convert them into structured work in Asana. Teams have the full context and details required to move seamlessly from intake to execution.

Monitor goals with more structured tracking and focus

Save time with more flexible, reusable rules

  • Manage complex rule logic with enhancements in the rule builder: The enhanced rule builder makes it simpler to manage intricate rule logic, ensuring your workflows can run smoothly without constant oversight.

  • Eliminate rework with rule duplication: Scale successful workflows in a few clicks with the ability to duplicate rules within and across projects. Save hours on rebuilding or tailoring the process.

  • Optimize performance with automatic AI model selection: Remove the guesswork and build AI-powered rules that work best for you and your team.

AI Teammates

  • Can you share examples of the use cases that AI Teammates can help address? AI Teammates can integrate directly in workflows across Marketing, Operations, IT, and more to tackle complex launch coordination, strategic planning, campaign management, onboarding and so much more. Check out the AI Teammates gallery to get started with a prebuilt, ready-to-use AI Teammate. You can also crate your own custom AI Teammate from scratch - no coding required.
  • How do AI Teammates learn my team’s workflows or context? AI Teammates operate within the context of how your team actually operates and have full context of your goals or what the team is trying to acheive, thanks to Asana’s work graph data model. As AI Teammates continue to learn from past projects, you don’t have to re-explain context. They keep your team in the loop with the right checkpoints and work within the guardrails or permissions determined by the team.
  • How do you create an AI Teammate? You can use the +Create button, in the same exact way you would create a new task, project, or goal. Simply choose AI Teammate from the dropdown menu.
  • Who has access to the AI Teammate? You can share AI Teammates with your team or specific people. Only the invited members will have access to the AI Teammate, so no surprises!
  • How do AI Teammates work with AI Studio? AI Teammates and AI Studio are designed to work better together. AI Studio automates repeatable work at scale, while AI Teammates take on collaborative, complex tasks. Together, they handle busywork and accelerate strategic work — so your team can focus on what matters most.
  • I can’t see the option to add an AI Teammate. Do I need to activate or purchase this separately? And will this use my AI Studio credits? The AI Teammates add-on license can be added to any Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, or Enterprise+ user license. To access the add-on after purchasing, an Admin must assign the user a license in the admin console. To purchase the add-on, you must contact your Asana sales representative or reach out to Sales directly. AI Studio and AI Teammates are separat, so using AI Teammates will not use AI Studio credits.

Projects & Portfolios

Who can share access to the projects within a portfolio? A project admin can enable project-portfolio access sharing. When a project admin shares project access with a portfolio, members of the parent portfolio will inherit the same access level on the project as they have on the portfolio. This feature ensures consistent permissions across the connected work.

  • What are the new status update options in projects and portfolios? Projects and portfolios can now be marked as dropped or complete, which improves reporting accuracy and gives leaders clearer visibility into actual work outcomes.
  • What do saved views in project templates preserve? Saved views in project templates can retain tab structure plus settings for filters, sorts, and view options, so teams can kick off new projects with the right setup already in place.
  • What’s changing with custom field limits in projects? Projects can now support up to 150 custom fields, giving teams more flexibility to capture structured data for reporting, forecasting, and large-scale work management.
  • Where do I manage shared project access with a portfolio? Project admins can open a project’s share modal, choose Manage access, and then select the portfolio or portfolios to share through. Current portfolio members are added through that connection. Learn more in the Help Center: Share project access with a portfolio

Rules & AI Models

  • How do you duplicate a branch in the rule builder? And how does changing the order of the branches affect the rule overall? Hover over the branch and click the three dot icons to open the branch options and select Duplicate. Changing the order of the branches essentially affects the order of operations and the sequencing of the rule. Reorder the branch by moving it up or down in the rule builder. The rule runs from top to bottom, so arrange the scenarios accordingly.
  • Can I duplicate a rule across projects, or only within the same project? Rules can be duplicated within project and across projects, which helps teams reuse proven automations instead of rebuilding them from scratch.
  • Can you edit a rule in one place and it affects all projects? No, edits to rules are specific to the project they are duplicated to. To manage rules across several projects from one place, it is recommended to use Bundles.
  • What is the difference across the different LLMs or AI models available in the rule builder? AI Studio offers multiple large language models you can use in your smart workflows. The right model to use typically depends on the type of work to be done and potential costs. You can choose to change the model at any time as you refine the workflow.
  • What does automatic AI model selection do in the rule builder? It removes the guesswork of choosing a model manually. In the rule builder, teams can use the Recommended option so Asana automatically selects the best-fit AI model for the job.
  • How do I turn on automatic AI model selection in a rule? In the rule builder, select the Recommended option so Asana automatically uses the best-fit AI model for that job. The Recommended option will be selected by default for all newly created rule!
  • How secure is Asana regarding sharing confidential material with AI? Asana’s AI partners (like OpenAI and Anthropic) do not train or improve their models using your data. They are configured to delete your data following the completion of any query/response.

Goals

  • Can I group and sort goals by custom fields? Yes. Goals support grouping and sorting by custom fields. You can also share a tailored or specific view of goals with a URL.
  • How do I add a custom field to a goal? Go to the goal you want to update, then create a new custom field or choose one from the library. Learn more in the Help Center: Custom fields on goals
  • Where can I change my default goal notification preferences? The Help Center says users can set default goal notification preferences in their profile, so they only get the goal updates they care about. Learn more in Help Center: Goals comments, notifications, and activity history

Integrations (Slack, Claude)

  • How do you automate intake with Slack and AI Studio? You can easily set rule triggers so that qualifying requests that come through on Slack are automatically converted into structured work in Asana. When a slack message is posted to a channel, you can have AI automatically check the content of the message (look for specific keywords or phrases) and create a task in Asana accordingly. And when replies are posted to the Slack thread, the full conversation is also tracked as comments in the Asana task.
  • How does the Slack and Asana integration work? Teams can connect Slack and Asana to create tasks, preview Asana links in Slack, receive real-time notifications, and take actions directly from Slack.
  • How do I connect Asana to Claude? Open Claude and click the +icon. Add Asana as a connector in Claude. From there, you can use Claude to create Asana tasks and projects, check status, and work with Asana context without switching tools. Learn more in the Help Center: Asana app in Claude
  • Is there an integration for Asana and Gemini? Yes, the integration requires a Google Workspace Gemini add-on (Standard, Plus, or Enterprise) and must be enabled by your Workspace administrator.
  • Does Asana work with Microsoft Copilot? Yes, Copilot can surface Asana tasks in Microsoft Search, summarize deadlines in Teams, and draft project plans in Word based on Asana structures.

Admin

  • Where is the release preview located? The release preview lives in the admin console. It allows super admins to preview upcoming features before they’re broadly released.
  • Is there a way to see who is a super admin in your organization? Yes. Click your profile picture > About my organization > Admin access to view the list of admins and super admins.
  • Is there an easy way to see all instances of AI use across our organization? If you are on an Enterprise+ or Enterprise plan, the Admin Console has a dedicated “Asana AI” section under Settings with usage metrics. Audit Logs (Settings > Audit Logs) provide a literal list of every AI trigger.
