Tailor your goal tracking for better insights with custom fields for goals

I’m excited to announce we’re bringing the power of custom fields to Goals!

This update allows you to add the same rich custom metadata to goals that you already use on tasks, projects, and portfolios — enabling accurate categorization, filtering, and reporting.

This feature is ideal to:

  • Organizing goals by strategic initiative, level, or other categories — add custom metadata that matches your organization’s structure.
  • Seeing goal progress with enhanced visibility — view custom fields in the grid view and apply filters for better tracking.
  • Run detailed reports and perform advanced searches — get comprehensive insights on goals based on custom field data.
  • Align with existing workflows — use the same custom field structure already in place for tasks, projects, and portfolios.

Hmm, it’s strange, but I still don’t see goals as shown on the screenshots here. Is the new look already rolling out to all domains?

Hi @Jan_Rajdl, sorry for any confusion! The roll out is a bit delayed but we will begin rolling out this update soon! I’ll comment here as soon as it’s live :folded_hands:

All I can say here, because I can’t focus on anything else, is how beautiful that multi layered subtask drop down is!

I know those aren’t subtasks, but that paints a bright future for multilayered subtask drop downs :slight_smile:

@Emily_Roman Great update! Will there be an option to have these custom fields as part of the CSV export?

or CSV import, I would add?

This is absolutely fantastic and will simplify our company-wide progress & indicator tracking tremendously! We’ve been doing MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) Indicator Tracking with departmental and unit portfolios and “indicator-projects” with custom fields for a while now, and linked them to Goals. The new ‘custom fields’ feature will allow us to simplify and streamline that work. And I can’t wait to see the multi-layered “subtask” (subgoal?” view and play with it.

@Emily_Roman one question: Is it / will it be possible to customise the ‘Goal type’ field? I could see value in aligning it with the language used in the company. For example, we would like to use a taxonomy along the lines of:

  • 3-year strategic priority goal (“3YSP”)
  • Annual strategic priority goal (“SP”)
  • Current priority deliverable (“PD”)
  • MEL Indicator (metric; we could probably use ‘Key result’ for this)
