Asana desktop app questions

I recently installed the desktop app on Win11 because I was hopeful (and delightfully confirmed) that Timeline View loads much quicker than a web browser interface. I have a couple timelines with a LOT of tasks and dependencies and the desktop app seems to not have nearly the struggle and lag, so thank you for that Asana!

I have a few questions that I wasn’t able to find in the help center, I kept getting “not quite the right” answer.

1)I have about 4 Chrome tabs set to open certain Asana projects. Now that I’ve installed the app, none of them open but instead I get a “redirect” page asking me for permission for the Asana app to be opened instead. I don’t see a need for this, I don’t care to change this and I still prefer Chrome open those links as seamlessly as they did previously. I cannot find how to correct this without uninstalling the Asana app.

I know this isn’t the right place for feedback, but this seems to me like one of the more unnecessary annoyances that happens when you install an app. Facebook and Reddit do this sort of thing and it annoys me to no end, but I assumed those places did that because they are social media apps and they WANT you to install their app on your phone because now they can mine your activity. I’m doubting that this is what Asana is doing, so I suggest that this sort of thing not happen. Let us decide whether we want to open the app or the web browser and don’t force us to look at this redirect page by default.

  1. How might I set the Asana desktop app to open with specific projects (or even saved searches) in tabs? For example in Chrome I have several projects and a saved search that I have set to open anytime I open Chrome. Maybe I would just convert wholesale over to the desktop app but I cannot find a setting anywhere to specify what tabs automatically open upon starting the app.

Any help?

And again I’d like to say a kudos to the engineering team for making the app work so well with Timeline view, I find that exceptionally helpful. The next 4 months here at work will be much more livable because we have a major project going on with HUNDREDS of dependency strings going on and having a laggy timeline was going to make life quite frustrating otherwise

Hi,
If I understand question 2 correctly all you have to do, is add tabs in the desktop app. So if you have 4 specific you always want open, you just leave them there and next time you open the app, all 4 tabs will be there.
You add tabs by clicking on the plus sign, kind of like in a browser

The risk is of course, if you accidently close one or more of the tabs, it won’t open next time.

If you are asking about setting up an Asana launch sequence? Sorry, I have no idea.

I hope this wasn’t another “not quite right answer”

Hmm. At first I did not notice that the Asana Desktop app reopens the same tabs that were open when it was closed. I thought I had seen that it always opened with one tab on your personal “Home” screen, but that appears to be wrong.

It does seem that it will reopen in the same tabs that were closed.

I would love an option to have it always launch with specified tabs open, but at least it reopens with the previous tabs open.

Thank you!
