Allowing for duplicating of Project Templates

I want to be transparent that I don’t own Project Templates today, but I take showing up consistently for this community seriously regardless of ownership. Advocating for feedback like Saved view tabs to be supported in Project templates is just one example, and I’ll keep doing it here. Given this thread has 363 votes and 120 comments at the time of posting, I’ve gone ahead and put together a lightweight spec for the team in their backlog to ensure this doesn’t just get lost amongst other feedback.

While I can’t promise a timeline, please keep the examples and use cases coming. They genuinely help strengthen the case!

Thank you! I add all the votes for this!

Adding a comment so that this request doesn’t get locked down or discarded. This is a feature that is so needed!

In need of this feature. We created a template around a process. As we have automated that process, tasks in the template have fallen off or changed. I want to keep our original template, but modify as we evolve. There is no way to create a new template from what exists that I know of.

Here to say that we could really use this as well!

Having read this thread was created 4 years ago, I’m surprised this functionality has not been implemented? I use the roles function of the template therefore the instruction to create a project from the template and then save the new project as a template is wild. To be clear, Monday.com has this functionality and in my opinion, very basic need.

Amen. One example is the project roles, something that doesn’t carry over when using the create project >> save as template workaround. Now I have to manually re-create and re-assign every single task and every single role. What a waste of time that could be easily resolved by adding a duplication function.

…another example: portfolio membership, and all the custom fields those allow. grr!

My god. Is this not delivered after 4 years?

I have the exact same use case as OP.

:plus::one: on this as being a roadblock to a lot of potential template improvements on our end…

We’d love to take our existing templates which are in active daily use and start adjusting things to make 'em better, but not having the ability to duplicate the “live” template in order to get a “playground” version that can be messed around with (without impacting the rest of the company’s workflows) is a barrier to entry that is just too high, especially with complex templates!
