It appears (from searching the forum and testing about 10 variations) that we cannot use rules to generate a mailto link with simple parameters like ?subject= and have the link be a functional, clickable link.
What I’m hoping to accomplish:
Have a rule populate a (take your pick):
- Custom field
- Description
- Comment
with a CLICKABLE mailto link that populates with the email from another custom field and a subject line built from two other custom fields.
Someone posed this exact question in this thread from 2021 and the community manager closed the thread 4 days later without responding.
Use case: using an Asana space for user support
Enable user support specialists to quickly click a link (from any of the three choices above) and start composing an email to the user’s email address with a subject link pre-populated with a ticket # and issue type, which are both custom fields in our boards. The pieces are all there and I was surprised I could not thread them together in 2024 when Asana has come so far.
Bonus points if I can make it say CLICK HERE TO EMAIL USER instead of displaying the entire code, but I see from other threads that this may be asking too much. Of course, I’d love to add body= and start off their email with the person’s name, too…
Is there a workaround I’m missing?
