Allow guests to edit and create task templates

I have used task templates in many projects without issues. (Yay!) But today I was on a call with some colleagues when we realized that only I could see and edit a task template — the others couldn’t access the “templates” section in the “customize” panel.

After some digging… I discovered that the two people who can’t see edit the template are both “guests” in the organization, not “members”.

Is there a rule that guests cannot edit task templates?

If so, that explains the issue. But it should be explained here:

For what it’s worth, I found this very confusing, because one of these “organization guests” actually created the project originally, and thus she is the project owner. I assumed that anyone with the role of “owner” would be able to edit anything in that project, but it appears that’s not the case.

Thanks!

Hi @anon11527455, thanks for reaching out and sharing your feedback with us!

Organization Guests have access to most of the paid features in an Organization or team they’re invited to. However there are some limitations on what they can create and edit in a project:

  • They are unable to create, edit or delete Custom Fields or search for them using the Advanced Search tool. They will only be able to input or edit the values of existing Custom Fields.
  • Guests cannot create or own Rules, but they can trigger Rules.
  • Guests cannot edit or create task templates

I’ve gone ahead and sent a note to our content team so we can update the guide article and add this information too!
