PS: Following @lpb pointing me in the right direction below, this feature request is repurposed to solely focus on making these two surfaces consistent, i.e. make the ‘Add to projects’ option visible in subtasks within task templates, consistent with the ‘Create subtasks’ rule action.
Original post follows:
I don’t use Task templates often and instead prefer to use rule actions to create tasks or subtasks, as part of a workflow.
However, I was reminded again why I don’t use Task templates when I noticed that a subtask within a task template cannot be added into a project, upon creation. I find this odd since this is possible in the rule action to ‘Create subtasks’.
I think it would be ideal to have consistent features available for both.
This should also apply to Level 2, L3, L4 and L5 subtasks within, as it does for the rule action.
Subtasks in task templates can be added to projects, it’s just a little hidden, consistent with how it’s hidden for regular (non task-template) subtasks. You have to ask for the field to be shown either with Tab+P or the menu:
I was never a fan of this design, but perhaps Asana found that helped the majority of users in user testing (perhaps avoiding mistakenly adding subtasks to projects when that wasn’t really what they meant to do).
Aha! I hadn’t thought to look there. It’s not often I learn something new in Asana but always glad when that happens
Now it begs the question, how do you delete a subtask in a task template without the icon? Why the need for a difference UX/UI here by also placing it within the ...?
I think this request should remain, as to make these two surfaces consistent. What do you think, @lpb ?
“Delete subtask” and the Tab+Del shortcut are in the menu as shown in the screenshot above, right?
Sure, I agree if you want to keep the request, just clarify it re what I mentioned above (that the non-task template task pane also starts by hiding the Project affordance), and also perhaps reconcile with this that may be the same thing:
