Add-on sync email issue

Good afternoon Asana Community,

When I try to create a task using the browser add-on to sync my emails with Asana, I receive a message saying that authentication is required. However, when I go through the authentication process, it shows an error, and I don’t see any troubleshooting link or way to report the issue.

Could you please help me resolve this?

Best,

Hey Stan, sorry you ran into that auth loop. I know how annoying that is when you just want to turn an email into a task.

Quick checks that usually fix this:

  1. Make sure you are signed into the same account everywhere. Sign out of Asana in that browser, sign back in, then retry the add-on auth.

  2. If this is the Gmail add-on: in the same browser, open Gmail and confirm you are on the correct Google account. Remove and re-add the Asana add-on, then try again.

  3. If this is the Outlook add-in: confirm your Microsoft 365 account allows third party add-ins. Remove and re-add the Asana add-in, then try again.

  4. Temporarily disable other extensions, allow third party cookies, and allow pop-ups. Then try an incognito/private window with only the Asana add-on enabled.

  5. If your org uses SSO, complete the SSO flow in the same window when prompted.

If it still errors, can you share:

  1. Which add-on you are using (Gmail add-on, Outlook add-in, or a browser extension)

  2. Your browser and version

  3. The exact error text from the screenshot

Since this looks like an account-specific auth issue, the fastest path is to contact our Support team so they can check logs and your org settings. Steps here:

curious which step resolved this. i’ve ran through the list and am still having issues on the “gmail auth status” not being able to connect. i’ve signed out of both chrome and asana, restarted my computer, removed todosit gmail extension, tried incognito, tried in safari (currently using chrome); popups allowed.

im using chrome, gmail-add on, chrome Version 145.0.7632.119, image attached. big thanks!

Hey Bryan. My colleague, who experienced the same issue, and I tried multiple solutions without any luck. Then, accidentally, one day it started working. We’re not sure what solved it. We logged out and back in, removed the Asana add-on and reinstalled it, and were about to give up.
