Add Comment feature to View-only licenses

View-only licenses is a very useful feature for large organizations.
I understand that functions are restricted from those available to regular users.
However, the restrictions are too strict and I can’t use them.
The comment function should be available.

Hi @Ka_Nishiyama , I added the word ‘licenses’ in the topic title so it’s not confused with pubic view-only links to projects.

I understand your point, but I think the whole purpose of view-only licenses is that a user cannot engage with anything/anyone in that Asana space (they don’t even have a My Tasks, even though they could be assigned tasks) so I doubt Asana would consider this request.

View-only licenses” and “Read-only links” have different purposes, and are also different from “Viewer project access level”, so it is difficult to understand.

As a prerequisite,

  • My company can only use " Enterprise and Enterprise+" licenses. In addition, the “Division function” cannot be used. The main reason is security-related.
  • My company has more than 1,000 staff members, but only about 10% of them are Asana license subscribers.

In the above environment, “View-only licenses” are very attractive.
However, “View-only licenses” were only released recently (November 2024), and personally I have not yet fully understood its functions.
Why,

  • Can you assign task responsibilities? (I think it is unnecessary)
  • Can you “LIKE”? (I think it is unnecessary)
  • Can’t you comment? (I think it is necessary)
  • Etc.

If you could give me any advice on my thoughts, it would lead to the use of “View-only licenses”, so I would appreciate it.

I actually think this is an important feature of them: it allows you to keep track of who is responsible for tasks that are being performed by external entities. Otherwise you are having to create fake users to assign such tasks to, or leave them unassigned and put the assignee info in the task description or a custom field or comments.

Hi @Phil_Seeman
I would certainly like to admit that there are positive effects. However, I feel like there are also negative (troublesome) aspects.
