I’m not sure why the decision was made to remove the colored background from the home tab. It worked as a visual break between the background, side navigation, and widgets. Now the only options are getting blinded by harsh white on everything, or all black with no difference in contrast.
Please add it back as an option like it was. If there’s a plan to improve on it, can you please bring back the colored background option until that’s deployed?
This also ties into removing picture backgrounds from Projects. These are all user-side settings that don’t affect anyone but the user themselves, so I don’t get why they’ve been taken away. These changes have been an eyesore.
100% Agree! Losing access to customization of the background color makes interacting with the system painful! Maybe it is because I don’t have my blue light glasses, but the yellow and blue highlights on the dark setting are very harsh. Please restore this functionality!
I definitely agree with this! It’s great to have a break of color for basic reading and accessibility reasons, but also for the customization aspect. Please restore the color customization ability on the home tab!
Pissed off about this plus the removal of the background images in project boards as well. People have been asking for more customisation on that front for literally years. And now they seem to be taking it all away entirely?!
What’s next the taking away of the unicorns and stuff that appear when completing tasks? Removal of all colour and anything that makes the app enjoyable to use?
One of the reasons I like using asana is because of all these features.
So glad to find I’m not the only one who finds this change incredibly difficult on the eyes. In addition to making it hard to process the information on the. home page, it’s taken away one of the major visual cues I relied on when scanning my many open apps for quick access.
Adding in to bump this! It was jarring to get back from vacation to see the all-white interface. A colored background is a great visual break. I would love to see it added back in.

Mine just updated this morning to no color, and I am super sad about it. Like the creature automations, the customizable backgrounds and home page color were little delights that brightened my day and helped make the actual work - the tasks - POP. Please reconsider this decision.
Totally agree! My eyes started hurting today because of the colors change. They became unnecessarily bright, almost neon. I really liked the dimmed version more, and it didn’t put so much pressure on my eyes. Please consider changing them back
Absolutely agree!!! What the heck Asana? Bring back the color. It helps with focus, as well as improves my mood which in turn increases my productivity. Plus, it was one of the fun features that made Asana so great!
Agreed! It’s also a accomodation for people with visual issues, and can certainly help productivity over all when you don’t have to look at start white all day.
Yes, I agree with this post. Please restore the functionality to enable users to set a custom background colour on the home tab. I specifically joined the community forum today so that I could find out what has happened to this - glad to see I am not alone in wanting this functionality restored!

Some context that might help: the new look isn’t a one-off change to the home tab. Asana’s interface is evolving as the product grows, and a more consistent visual foundation across the experience is part of that. I don’t have a change to the background options to share with you today.
What I can tell you is that this thread is with our product design team, along with the related feedback on project backgrounds. Personalization clearly matters a lot to this community, and that’s useful for them to see in your words rather than mine.
Please do keep adding to the thread, especially the practical side of how you used color to navigate your day!
Exactly what is “a more consistent visual foundation” referring to? As end users, we should have that ability to change it, consistent or not. The fun things that set Asana apart from ‘everyone else’ are getting stripped away, one by one. Honestly? Now Asana is just like all the other productivity sites out there: Boring.
