I use Asana a to do list. All my tasks have a due date and I look each morning and work through my tasks due that day. (I use a lot of the other features but my preferred way of organising each day is via the My Tasks tab)
However, I cannot order the tasks that have the same due date. Is there any way to have a view which sorts my tasks by due AND I can reorder the tasks that have the same Due Date? So I can prioritise the tasks each day.
Hi @Richard_Clarke, welcome to the Asana Community Forum! As it stands, itâs currently not possible to reorder tasks when sorting them by Due Date. As a workaround, you can try organizing your tasks using sections and drag and drop them depending of their priority.
Issue
It is not easy to quickly manage tasks due âTodayâ or âPast Dueâ in a way that we can drag-drop to shuffle the order for priority of which tasks to work on first. You can sort by due date, but once youâre sorted, you canât re-organize the list.
Job To Be Done
As a Product Manager, I want to be able to see all tasks due today or previous to today automatically, and be able to shuffle the order to help plan my day, so that I can have a prioritized list of todayâs task that coincides with my schedule
Potential Solutions
Just support this out of the box
Enhance rules to support another trigger based on due date that can be joined with existing rule triggers functionality. You may currently create a rule that updates tasks due today into a section, but this runs at midnight, and does not encompass tasks that were just created NOW with a due date of today. This could be done by allowing a rule that supports
Hi @Dustin_Parker, thank for taking the time to provide this feedback.
We do have an existing thread for this feature request in the #productfeedback category so Iâve gone ahead and merged your post with the existing one to consolidate feedback.
Iâll keep you posted and let you know if I have any updates
Yep, this is super annoying. I liked the old way My Tasks worked. Now that I have to build my own not-quite-like-it-used-to-be rules to sort My Tasks, I have begun to prefer keeping them in due date order as well. When I have a zillion things due on the same day it would be HUGELY helpful to be able to sort them as I like within that date.
I like to organize my tasks by day so I can see everything I need to do for that day. I donât like assigning times as much, because as long as those tasks get done today, it doesnât matter what time they get done. I often will organize my tasks my due date manually instead of using the filter feature, however, because I want to reorder those tasks within the day in the order Iâll do them, and using the automatic due date feature doesnât allow me to reorder those tasks, even when theyâre within the same day. It would be much easier than needing to order by due date automatically, select all the tasks, stop ordering by due date, drag all those tasks together, reorder them based on the order I want to do them in, and then resort based on due date automatically (which is similar to what I do right now every day, and doesnât really help my productivityđ). Thanks!
Hi @Logan_Kelly , welcome to the forum!
I had been using the sort by date in âListâ view for ages⊠until recently I found my peace with âCalendarâ view BUT set to âWeekâ instead of âMonthâ. Make sure to check it out!
This view will allow you to rearrange your My Tasks as you please in a familiar weekly calendar style interface. The only drawback is that you lose sight of your âSectionsâ but you can always check back on your âListâ view, once in a while⊠and especially for those red overdue tasks from last week
In My Tasks I have to use Sort: None and then manually sort by due date to then be able to sort tasks both by dates and then by priority within each due date. This takes around 5 minutes each dayâŠ
