When creating an advanced search using a piece of text and one or multiple custom fields, I discovered today that you can only edit the field options for the returned items on tasks in the returned search list, but not on projects.
For example, I have created a new custom field ‘Term’ that I want to retroactively apply to over 100 projects. This field will give me some useful insights into projects that are delivered within different school terms throughout the academic year.
Because not all of the projects (or none of them) exist within one singular portfolio, I search for “2024/25” in the ‘must contain’ field (knowing that my project names contain this character string), with the type set to ‘Projects’, along with a custom field filter set to ‘Term’ (with no selection, so that the field is displayed in the returned list). As expected, the results show a list of the projects I want to see that meet the criteria.
What I can’t do on the projects tab is edit any of the fields, nor can I multi-select any of them, but I can do this in the task tab for any tasks returned that also meet the same criteria.
The ability to change field options (custom and Asana assigned ones such as owner) on projects directly within this view would be highly useful when trying to make large scale changes to hundreds of projects.
I’m aware that I could add all of the projects to a portfolio, and then make the change within the portfolio itself, but this is very inefficient having to manually copy each project link.
I’m not sure if this is covered elsewhere, so if it is, feel free to combine or move this thread.
Alternatively if there is a way to do what I’m attempting in such a straightforward manner, please let me know.
