Where does the padlock icon on a team on the Team Goals page come from?

This question probably makes me sound like a complete newbie but I couldn’t find an answer anywhere in Asana or the forums or on the internet.

  • I’m here: Goals › Team goals
  • I’ve filtered to include 2 teams in my goal view.
  • Next one team header – let’s call it “Team A” – there’s a plus icon. (:heavy_plus_sign:)
  • Next the other team header – “Team B” – there’s a padlock icon. (:lock:)

I know the plus icon means: I can create a goal for Team A.
I also know the padlock icon means: I can’t create a goal for Team B.
But where does that setting originate?

I checked the team settings for possible reasons why it might appear:

  • Am I a member of one team but not of the other? – Nope, I’m not a member of either one.
  • Is one team joinable by request while the other is open for everyone to join? – Nope, both are joinable by request.
  • Is one team set to only team admins can create and share work with the team? – Nope, both are set to everyone in the organisation can.

Can anyone please tell me why I can create a goal for one of those teams but not for the other, and which setting determines whether I can or not?

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: In case it may be relevant, I’m also a superadmin.

Welcome to the Asana Community Forum @casparhubinger

I had a look on my end and I can also see the lock icon, but only for the “No team” section that would show all goals not added to a team

In your case it is indeed a bit weird if all settings seem to be the same.
Mabye join both teams and then check and compare the settings there as well.

Also for Team B when you go to the team page - “overview” tab are you able to create a goal from within there?

Thanks for looking into this, @Andrea_Mayer!

When I joined Team B (the one with the :lock: icon), the icon disappeared.
When I left the team again, the icon appeared again.

This suggests the :lock: icon indicates team membership on the goals page.
However, I am NOT a member in Team A! So it should have a :lock: icon as well – but it doesn’t.

Nope, not a member, not able to create a goal from their teams page.
