What's your time tracking naming convention?

Does anyone use project codes or a PO / numbering system for projects in your time tracking system?

Our agency is considering switching up our conventions for time tracking from “[Client], Retainer, [Project Type], [Project Name]” to a PO / numbering system where the client has a code, the project type has a code and the departments involved are also communicated via code (example: design = 0, dev = 1, copy = 2, etc.) We believe this will enhance search-ability and report-ability with far less manual data pulling than we’re doing now.

For context, we use Harvest right now and are switching to 10,000 ft for capacity planning and time tracking.

If anyone can provide guidance on how your company had used this methodology, that would be fantastic!

Hi! In our agency, we are using TMetric time tracker. It allows assign tags and work types. Tags allow us to label time entries for easy categorization of our work time. And work types simplify client invoicing and billing process
