I’m bored… tell me what’s the most unhinged way you’ve used Asana…
And no, I’m not talking about task templates or color-coded portfolios.
I’m talking about the “I mapped out my zombie apocalypse survival plan” kinda story.
We’ve seen a lot. From planning weddings to tracking houseplants, organizing pet adoptions, running book clubs, or even creating personal vision boards with quarterly OKRs.
A while ago I mentioned my “ Where’s that thing?” project where I catalog personal belongings I rarely use but always lose. Now it’s your turn! Feel free to share your story right here in the thread!
If you’re feeling a little shy or want a lighter way to join in, no worries. We’ve got a fun poll below that lets you tell us your “Out of Office” Asana style with just a quick vote:
Vacation project manager – Color-coded itineraries, shared with the fam
Life event overlord – Weddings, baby showers, bachelorette logistics
Personal growth guru – Meal plans, habits, vision boards
Agent of chaos – “My houseplants have workflows”
Tempted newbie – Haven’t used it for personal stuff… yet
Out of office, out of Asana – I pretend it doesn’t exist after 6 PM

Got an especially weird, wonderful, or totally unexpected Asana story?
We’d love to hear it! If you’ve used Asana in a way that’s unusual, touched your life, helped you through a big moment, or simply brought you joy, and you’d like to share it beyond the Forum, here’s your chance!
Who knows? Your story might be featured on our social channels, Community Forum, Ambassador Slack, or newsletter. (Don’t worry, we’ll always get your OK before sharing anything!)
I protoyped an approach in a very early version of Asana for a standup comic to keep track of his material/bits including when they were used in TV appearances. It was fun to try but ultimately it wasn’t fully implemented.
For years Asana has been my primary, master calendar (though of course it is supplemented by a traditional one (GCal) for appointments).
I am a volunteer EMT and during the soccergames of our local football team I use Asana to record communications and positions of our teams and ambulances. I use Asana to document what we do and to report on the casualties we take care of during the game. No patient data is recorded, but I can show response times, log communnications, etc.
I’ve used Asana as a media tracker to track the different TV Shows & Movies I watch. Now I no longer do it, with all the different tracker applications that are there now, but I get to put my personal touches and add personal information and details about a particular show or movie I watch.
I’ve also used it to help me go through bunch of business ideas I have in my head
I’m in the process of looking into getting a house and I’m thinking of using Asana to help me with the process
Edit: I also just started using Asana to track feedback I have on different platforms I use. For bugs, concerns, comments on things I think about in the moment but always forget about.
I have a “master packing list” template with everything I could ever need to pack on a trip. I have a Zapier zap that looks for the template being used, then it creates a task for me saying “Did you forget anything on ______ trip?” Then I update the master list
I have all my important personal dates like wedding anniversary, wife’s birthday etc as tasks with 6 or 8 week advance task reminders.
I’ve been using it to plan my wedding! I have sections for big picture planning, 12 months out, day of, after wedding, etc. with tonnnns of tasks and subtasks throughout! Utilizing subtasks for a checklist to keep track of items to pack, etc.
Does everyone know what Due date Asana will use for the next recurrence of this task as soon as I mark this one complete today?
Hint: It’s set to recur periodically after 7 days, and the current Due date is June 1 (which has passed because today is June 4).
When I train on this feature, I usually use “Water plants” as my example for this, but it occurs to me that “Change litter” would work better with Tab+B which is also part of the training!
I created an Elf on the Shelf Project to stay ahead of the holiday chaos. Instead of waking up in the middle of the night trying to remember to move the elf, I now have a full plan mapped out. Each day includes whether the elf is leaving a gift, pulling a prank, or just changing outfits. I also added a field to track the type of activity, which helps keep things balanced and fun. It even lets me look back at previous years so I don’t repeat ideas!
