Visibility of all Recurring tasks

Can we still upvote this? I don’t see a button for that anywhere.

Never mind. You only see the vote button when you scroll all the way to the top of the page.

@Marie It’s been 3 years since just this thread opened and we don’t have the feature, any news on where the feature is in the list of priorities for the dev team?

It’s not that complex a feature to add. Just have it show in the Calendar as individual tasks, daily or whatever frequency the user chose but hide the recurring ones in the task list.

You can then add a checkbox in the options to have the calendar ‘Show All Future Tasks’. Which essentially toggles the view on and off.

Boom, no clutter in your Task list, but all the forward planning and ‘knowing what you’re doing’ when you sit at your computer in the morning.

Right now I’m manually entering the same task every single day so that my colleagues can see at a glance what I’m doing over the next month. It’s cluttering my task list but I don’t care. It’s more important to see my life from the calendar perspective. We live life one day at a time, so that view should be available to us, but we also need to know what to prepare ahead of time. So we need to see that too.

The way Google Calendar handles recurring tasks is the best, I tried integrating pushing TO Asana so Google Calendar would push all my existing calendar events across. But Asana only pushes to Google, not the other way around.

I guess that would be a bigger job though right? Matching up all the fields that Google Calendar uses with the database of whatever Asana uses.

Google doesn’t really handle ‘teams’ and deadlines very well though. Sharing calenders is a bit lame and you can’t easily do it by project.

Come on guys!

Hi @KieranGiles and thanks for taking the time to share your feedback and use case in details. I’ve gone ahead and escalated it to our team in the hope of sparking this discussion again. As it stands, I don’t have an update on this topic, but I’m keeping a close eye on this internally and continue to report regularly on this feature request. I’ll be in touch here as soon as I have an update.

I have been looking at Asana for years and finally decided to try it out to potentially replace Evernote, Trello and google products with a single reliable app. I received strong recommendations recently and I really like the overall user experience, but there are still a handful of features I am missing. It’s why I didn’t try your product sooner. I really hope your team can find a solution for accurate calendar and timeline views soon, I really like the list views but it’s not enough to manage complex/long-term projects.

I totally agree. The implementation you’re describing would be awesome. I hope Asana eventually adds this feature.

I hope also. This is VERY frustrating.

Thanks for your response. I’m sure you guys have a lot of development and sometimes things get pushed down the list but this is really something that will put Asana head and shoulders above the competition. A low hanging feature fruit!

Also came here looking for a solution to this. I agree with that this would be a differentiator for the product. The calendar view is awesome, but handling repeating events like this is completely non-intuitive. My use case is for repeat marketing tasks. We’re still testing a variety of competitor products and really like the calendar view you offer, but if having a repeat task fall off the calendar is as easy as forgetting to mark it as complete one day, we may have to find another tool.

It does not fall of the calendar, it just stays stuck on the previous instance you did not complete

Hi Bastien - this doesn’t get at the root of what I was trying to address. If someone forgets to mark it as complete, then it’ll stay on that day. If you don’t notice that it stayed on that day, then you’ll move forward without the task. Pretty soon, you won’t even see it in the calendar view at all. I’m sure it’ll stay in other views, but our primary use case is to use the calendar tool.

And that’s of course besides the point that it’s very non-intuitive. No other calendar software that we have used behaves this way, and it’s hard to view the sum of your work with this view.

I agree. In that case what I would do is manually create all the instances. The way I would operate:

  • I would manually duplicate the task a dozen times
  • then I would place them in a project, make a template out of it
  • I would create 2 or 3 projects based on the template, move their tasks into the original template
  • go again until I have a year covered
  • and then choose the due date

Yes it is going to take an hour, but you can delegate it, and then you’ll be set up for an entire year. :man_shrugging:

Is this a money issue? I would pay more money per seat to see this feature? As it stands I pay no money, specifically because this feature is missing. Make this a premium feature if you must, but just add it already.

I am trying to find a task management platform for a 30 employee company. This feature, and this feature alone is what is keeping me from pulling the trigger on a paid business package.

I do not understand how this feature was overlooked, and I cannot understand why this fundamental feature is so hard to implement. I will continue to monitor this thread, but I have to pull the trigger on something within the next 60 days or so. I really want it to be Asana, but it will not be if this feature is not an option.

Not everything is a bug to be fixed, sometimes it is a conscious product decision. You can’t make everything customizable with an on-off toggle, and if you don’t then the change impacts everyone. There are tons of different persona using Asana and the product team needs to account for everyone…

Another user lost here because of the lack of seeing recurring tasks in the future.

Absolutely mad that there are 3 years of comments asking for this here and nothing is done about it. Tells me all I need to know about how much asana cares about improving based on feedback. I’m not sure how other businesses can plan their year ahead only seeing 1 recurring task, very silly.

I would have also paid for this feature. Shame I guess we will try another tool…

I created a tool as a workaround, check out A tool to create "recurring" tasks appearing in calendars

This function is absolutely essential when managing projects. Please implement!

Not answering here does not mean they ignore it. Believe me, they know these requests exists and I believe they do talk about them often. They don’t communicate the discussion and the roadmap, that’s all :hugs:

3 years later and it looks like people are still asking for this feature. My guess is they want you to upgrade and use the timeline feature and set it to reoccur weekly. Rather than setting daily recurring tasks.

I want to upgrade but would I prefer daily reoccurring tasks feature. Other than this its an awesome product
