Using custom text fields to trigger rules

@Steven_Reed1,

I’ve merged your post into an existing topic where you can click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button.

For variables, Asana offers some (the + in some rule details), but see also the third-party Flowsana.net (cc @Phil_Seeman) for more.

Thanks,

Larry

I recently received emails that my custom rules were broken on asana. I deleted my old rules to remake them, and I no longer see the option to set a custom rule that’s triggered by a custom field being updated. My goal is to have a rule so that when a custom field is changed to ‘kickoff’, it moves the task to a certain section of my project board, and so on for other custom field options.

Welcome to the forum, @Ashley_Donisch. What type of field are you referencing (single-select, text, etc.)? Not sure when you set up the rule initially, but I don’t think any functionality has been removed on triggers. You should still see When {{field}} is changed… as an option in the triggers.

I’ve experienced the same with a custom field, text field and it doesn’t list the field in the “when field is changed” option.

Hi @Ashley_Donisch You’re correct that text-type fields are not available to use as rule triggers. I’ve merged your thread with an existing one for that request; you can add your vote for it at the top of the thread!

(Also note some alternate solutions mentioned in this thread, including our Flowsana integration. :wink:)

I am using text that is coming in from Salesforce being able to run a trigger rule to put something in a specific category would be extremely helpful!
