Use rule to send comment to task assignee, not a specific user

Hi all, hope you’re doing well.

I’m trying to setup a rule to send a tagged comment to whoever is the assignee of the task. The use case is a reminder sent to a person when a task is assigned to them, prompting them to take specific action on that task.

Essentially what I am after is being able to use @task assignee in a comment field, rather than setting up multiple branches in a rule for every single potential assignee. Has anyone managed to accomplish this please, within the capabilities of regular Asana?

Do you have Asana AI enabled? If so, this can be handled by using the “Use AI” variable in the comment rule action and a prompt like:

If you don’t use AI, you can also use a “people variable” to set this:

I’d recommend using the Assignee variable as the far cheaper (financially, and re resource-consumption) option, and it’s more straightforward.
