This “Untitled Section” is really poor user experience, all to enable users to not categorize tasks into sections… even though under the hood they’re actually going into a section regardless… just one that is hidden and called “Untitled Section” because it must be possible to not put tasks into a section…?
So why can’t you just put it into the first section that exists…? If it’s going to be forced into a ghost section regardless, why must you circumvent my efforts to create the sections that I want?
This is confusing at best and really annoying that it’s a part of a template because you’ve basically automated a really annoying pattern that I need to either fix manually, or I need to know that I need to create a rule forcing tasks to be put into the section I choose. Not only that, we’re all forced to exercise cognitive gymnastics to explain that it’s not in a section, but it really is, but it’s hidden by default, and you can delete it manually.. but it might come back… this is nonsense and an implementation detail that should be hidden from the user. OR, if I’m creating a template in List View, give me the option to disable the “untitled section”, please. Making me make the same repeated action every time I create a template erodes the purpose of making a template.
If it MUST go into a section under the hood, PLEASE just put it into the first user-created section. No more confusion, no more making people feel crazy because they spent all this time to setup a template only to have it circumvent their efforts and create some ghost section that is kinda real but not really…
Seriously, though. I know y’all don’t want to admit that it’s a bug because it was an intentional design decision, but it most certainly IS a design bug, even if you choose to double-down on it being intentional, it’s still bad design. I first ran into this like two years ago. How is this still like this with such an active community and so many people expressing confusion and dissatisfaction?
Okay.. stepping off my soapbox and going for a walk.
Thank you for entertaining my opinionated rant.
