I am evaluating the free plan versus the starter plan, and to be honest, it is really annoying to go over the features. The issue I have is that paid features are not highlighted on UI while using Asana, and there is so much I need to redo to differentiate between them. Besides, Asana put me on a trial period right from the start, so whatever I created during the trial period was done without knowing if it is part of the free plan or not. Asana expects users to know this without prior knowledge or proper identification of features, which is not fair. The issue is the UI does not show the features so customer has to interpret the features and after the trial period the projects get locked if I had used a paid feature . Not ideal at all. I doubt this is a fair business practice and is misleading to customers.
THIS. Seriously Asana, get it together. This is such blatant bait-and-switch tactics to force new users into a free trial where the default utilizes all the paid-only features and therefore a user unwittingly uses those features, thereby making their whole project inaccessible after the trial ends unless they upgrade to a paid plan. Is this really a necessary way for Asana to gain paid customers? Is the platform so unsellable through ethical means that these smoke and mirror ‘tricks’ have to be used to lure customers into something, thinking they have no other choice?
Thanks for taking the time to share your candid feedback with us, @Meera2 and @Laura_Hamm.
I understand how encountering features without clear labeling during your free trial can lead to confusion or frustration, especially when you’re trying to determine what’s available to you. The points you raised about the icons, tooltips, and expectations around feature access are all valid and helpful.
I’ve shared your feedback with our product team. This kind of insight is incredibly useful as we think about how to improve the Asana experience for new users and make those distinctions more intuitive. Improving transparency and helping users get the most out of Asana, whether they’re on a free or paid plan, is a priority for us.
