Tracking Variance Against a Baseline

For a project where I want to use Baseline to show the variance over time, I’ve created the Baseline for the project (right before the project started). But when I modify the Gantt chart view to reflect Variance, I don’t see the Baseline. All I see is the revised Gantt chart.

Bottom line: There are lots of hyperlinks to the ‘Add a Baseline’, and lots of old hyperlinks of people asking for Baselines to be added as a feature. Where can I find the actual steps to create the Gantt view that shows both the Baseline image and the revised / Variance?

Is it only possible in certain versions of Asana? Could that be why I’m not seeing any means by which to actually use this feature?

Welcome, @Edward_Saum,

The feature is available on all paid Asana plans.

Here’s how to use baseline help.

Thanks,

Larry

That is the link for Gantt view as a whole. There are dozens of articles / posts linking to that point. The only part that relates to Baseline is the five steps to create a Baseline. Per my post, I created the Baseline with ease. Since then, any changes to the schedule are not creating any graphic differentiation between the Baseline schedule and the variance schedule. No ‘rectangles with diagonal hash pattern’. All creating the baseline did was make the bar graphs on the Gantt chart half the height.

@Edward_Saum,

Did you set a baseline date equal or later than a task’s start or due date? If so, you should see the hatch pattern, if not, you won’t.

If it’s not behaving that way, Try these troubleshooting steps, then please create a support ticket: see How to contact our Support Team.

Thank you. The Baseline was initially set at the day before the project began, with the hope that it would capture all subsequent tasks. Moving it forward to day one of the first task corrects that error.
