Thumbnail previews for attachments and rich link preview cards in tasks

Feature request

Please provide consistent visual thumbnail previews for task attachments and rich preview cards for links, similar to the previews shown when sharing content on social networks.

Use case

When a task contains several files and links, it should be possible to recognize the right item at a glance without opening each attachment or URL individually.

Suggested behavior

  • Display each attachment as a visual card with a thumbnail, file name, and file type.
  • Where supported, use the image itself, the first page of a PDF or document, a presentation slide, a spreadsheet preview, or a video poster frame as the thumbnail.
  • Turn links in task descriptions and comments into optional rich cards showing a preview image, page title, short description, and source domain, like social media link previews.
  • Provide a consistent experience for uploaded files and linked cloud files, including OneDrive/SharePoint and Google Drive when access allows.
  • Allow users to switch between a compact list and a thumbnail/card view, and keep a link as plain text when preferred.
  • Respect existing access permissions and show a clear fallback card when a preview is unavailable.

Benefit

Visual previews would help users scan tasks faster, distinguish similarly named attachments, and understand linked content before opening it. The goal is a consistent experience across attachment types and links, extending any previews already available for individual formats or integrations.
