Once you reach the bottom of your to-do list, you discover very interesting tasks.
Some of them don’t need to be done anymore. They can be canceled because they no longer make sense, or because something similar was already done, or even because a decision was made not to do them.
Some of them are tasks you’ve already completed in the past, just duplicated in the list. That’s a great feeling, too.
And then there are the ones you’ve been putting off for a very long time. When you finally face them, you realize they don’t actually take that long. That happens to me all the time. I keep postponing these tasks, and one day, when they’re the only ones left, I do them and realize it wasn’t that bad. Sometimes, postponing even helps: by the time I get to them, I’ve gained a different perspective and end up doing them in a smarter, quicker way.
If you can, try to reach the bottom of your to-do list at least once or twice a year.
