Task Notification Reminder Alerts

We are fairly new to Asana as we recently moved from “Teamwork”. One of the biggest complaints from our team is the inability to add a special reminder to a task in the form of an email, text, or app notification. Yes, Asana sends emails with tasks that are due today, and we can see current tasks in many ways, but sometimes, there is a task of great importance that cannot be missed. It would be helpful to quickly set a reminder to receive that task reminder differently than other tasks. In asana, we can create custom rules that move tasks to other areas and create comments to trigger alerts. But that’s kind of overkill when you only want the alert for certain tasks and not all tasks in a project or a section…
Teamwork did a great job of adding a little bell icon to the task toolbar so you can set up your reminder to go to your email, SMS, and/or app notification if you need a little “extra reminder”. That (and task progress complete %) are two of the main gaps we see as we are building out our Programs & Projects in Asana.

Does anyone know if this is on the feature roadmap?

Hi @Miriam_Nelson,

A workaround to your request would be to create a single select custom field called Extra Reminder with options for On and Off. Then create a rule that says When Due date is approaching > Check if Extra Reminder is set to On > Send email to Assignee

Note: this rule requires you to authorize the Microsoft or Gmail integration.
Once this is set up, you can receive extra reminders by selecting On in the Extra Reminder field of the desired task.

Also, don’t forget to scroll to the top and click “Vote”!
