Task added to project via email submission not triggering associated rule

What I’m trying to do

  • Forward emails from Gmail to the the asana project email address, add a task to that project, then trigger a rule that should add custom field values

What’s not working or confusing

Although I have successfully forwarded tasks to the project using the x+[projectID]@mail.asana.commail.asana.com address, the rule linked above won’t run. These tasks are treated as if they are any other task that has been added to the project. I tried using the Check If function to check if the task was added to the project via email submission but the results were the same, this rule won’t run!

Am I misunderstanding what “adding a task via email submission” means? I was expecting this rule to be triggered by any task added to this project via the project email.

Thanks!!

@Forum-team,

Can you help with this? I tried to test and don’t see in my env how to get a “When” like @Christina13 shows, and not sure what it means when using that conditional in “If” because when I sent a Gmail to the project’s unique email address, it didn’t show up in the project at all for me!

I wonder if the Enterprise feature re emails where Emails now appears in the Customize menu has anything to do with this?

Also, does the new feature affect this topic request? Is it launched?

Thanks,

Larry

Hi everyone,

I have escalated this issue as it may be a bug. I will update you once I hear back. Thank you !

Hi everyone,

The issue of the email to the project using the x+[projectID]@mail.asana.com address not triggering the Rule has been confirmed as a bug and is currently being worked on until EoW. Thank you so much for your patience!

@lpb
The email sender should be a member of the project unless both the project and the team are public. In this case, users can create tasks without becoming a member of the project.

Hi - has there been any further development on this topic/bug fix?
