Subtasks in Calendar view from Requests

Hi.

I have made a Project from the Request Template - Each request is then sifted into a specific category (in progress, completed etc). Requests are automatically coming with subtasks for the different activities to be performed during this request. I then assign timelines to each of those subtasks. However, they don’t appear in the calendar view. They can be seen in the Gantt or Timeline tab but it is difficult to have a proper view of the overlaps between tasks, as we could see as in the Calendar tab. I know subtasks cannot be added to the Calendar for some reasons, and I’ve seen something like the subtasks can be dragged to the project and would appear in the calendar. However by doing this I loose completely track of what request this task is from.

My other option is to create a new Project and manually enter each of the new requests as Section and the subtasks as proper tasks that would appear in the Calendar of this project. However it seems quite inconvenient and more time consuming. Is there a way to make this much easier?

Best,

Geoffrey

Welcome, @Geoffrey_De_Oliveir1,

The ability to see subtasks in Calendar view is promised, perhaps within the next quarter.

In the meantime, you can work around this current limitation:

A subtask can be added to be member of the parent task’s project by viewing the subtask in the task detail pane and typing Tab+P (or choose from the Task actions menu) and choosing the parent project.

That will cause the subtask to appear in Calendar while keeping it a subtask.

There’s a side effect: It will now appear in List view and Board view as well. If you want, you could make a “Hidden subtasks” section, move it to the bottom, collapse it, save that view, and above when you add the subtask to the project, then choose Hidden subtasks as the section so it’s out of the way.

Thanks,

Larry
