At some point while testing out Asana, I got it to display the parent task next to the subtask name and to show subtasks on the same level as main tasks.
For example:
Task
Subtask > Task
For the life of me I can’t figure out how I did it and I can’t find anything online about how to replicate it. Being able to have a view where all tasks are listed, with their parent tasks identified, would be quite useful for some of our projects.

The key is to attach the subtask to the project of its parent task. Doing that causes the subtask to appear as a top-level task in addition to also appearing as a subtask.
From the subtask’s detail pane, you can do that by clicking the + button to the right of the Projects button.
Interesting . This does seem to work, although my subtasks already indicate that they are part of the plan. But if I add them to the Section of that project, then it works as expected. The odd thing though is that I never did that intentionally.
It looks like if you create a task and then drag it into a section and then convert it to a subtask, it retains that section marker and behaves as expected. Same if you convert it to a subtask and then move it into a section.
I wish this was just a toggle that you could do project-wide.
Exactly. By default, subtasks are not actually connected to the project of their parent, but Asana just visually displays the parent’s project. This is a new feature that Asana just added a few months ago; you can read all about it here.
When you add it to a section, it actually does connect the subtask to the project.
