Search for status updates or messages with comments from specific people

I want to see all comments on Status Updates (AKA “Messages”) within a date range.

I’m able to do so for all Messages within a Portfolio, but unable to filter out Status Updates that have no comments. I also can search for “Commented on by” for “Me” and “Not me” but not for a given set of users (I can search for users who all commented, but not for any, i.e. “AND” vs “OR”.

Search operator syntax works for text fields (like titles), but not for users. Searching those text fields for users also doesn’t work.

Is there a way to do this? I’m imagining any of the following:

  • User groups that can be filtered via “Commented on by”
  • “OR” operators for users
  • A feed of recent comments on a portfolio

You are completely correct in your findings, the features you are looking for are currently limited in Asana.

Our team is also wondering about this functionality - is it possible to use search to pinpoint all comments from a single user? I note this ticket was lodged in May 2025 - I can’t find any updated feedback. Any guidance would be appreciated @Joanna_Colgan @Emily_Roman .
