Removed project members keep appearing when choosing an assignee for a Project's task (on the Project's board)

Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing:
Removed project members keep appearing when choosing an assignee for a Project’s task (on the Project’s board).
Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a Project.
  2. Create a task on the Project’s board.
  3. Add a new member to the project.
  4. Assign the new member to any task you’ve created on the Project’s board.
  5. [Optional; unsure if this is needed] Allow the assigned member to move the task between statuses and so on. Basically, perform some actions.
  6. Remove the new member from the project.
  7. Reassign his task or tasks to yourself.
  8. Create a new task. Check the “Assignee” bubble - when you open it, the removed project member should still appear in the Assignee suggestions.

Welcome to the Asana Community Forum @Inlesco

Was this member only removed from the project or from your the team/organization also?

Because if he was only removed from the project it is normal for the user to still show.

To remove somebody completely follow the steps outlined here.

I didn’t have any teams created at the time. I simply added the person to one of my projects.

Thus, the person is not added to my organization or any team.

Hi @Inlesco, welcome to our Community Forum  :grinning:

It looks like the member that shows up on your task has not been fully removed from your organization correctly.

You may have removed them from a team (in a free organization) but did not remove them from the organization itself. If that’s the case, they may not show in any teams but will still appear in the typeahead when you’re assigning tasks.

Please follow these instructions to fully remove this person:

  1. Access any team’s settings from the sidebar
  2. Navigate to the Members tab
  3. Invite the person you want to remove
  4. Immediately after inviting, find their name in the Members list, and use your mouse to hover over their name
  5. Click Remove
  6. Then, click Remove Access
  7. Finally, click Deprovision

You must click all 3. The second click removes the person from the team, and the third click completely removes them from your organization. For a visual demonstration, please have a look at the GIF in this article.

Hello @Ainhoa_Rico @Andrea_Mayer . I don’t see any Asana teams UI on the my dashboard’s sidebar. Here’s a screenshot.

Now, how does one even create a team in the first place, if there’s no option? Am I missing something here?

All of my projects are under “My projects” and there’s no teams. When I go to my profile, “My teams” section is empty. In “Frequent collaborators” section, I see the person that was removed from one of the projects I have.

Any ideas what to do next?

Your last response assumes that I have multiple teams already created, with projects assigned to those teams and the removed person was once assigned to any of those teams, if I understand you correctly.

Hi @Inlesco , thanks for your reply!

From looking at your screenshot it looks like you may be working under a workspace instead of an organization.

Organizations have the added tier of teams. Teams are not available in workspaces. Workspaces function as a single team. Therefore, it is not possible to create more teams in workspaces.

To remove people from your Workspace: (Workspace basics | Product guide • Asana Product Guide)

  1. Click on your profile setting
  2. hover to Admin Console
  3. From the Members, tab click on the three-dot icon across from the member’s name
  4. Click Remove
